The Rocket, with an overall development cost of $110 million, a high-rise office building that aims to establish Robina as the city’s corporate powerhouse, began its ascent this week with start of construction by builder Glenzeil.
While buildings of eight to 10 levels have become common in the Robina business district, the 16-level corporate tower is the area’s first true commercial high-rise, and a signature building for its developer, Robina Projects Australia.
The start to construction of The Rocket follows completion of a four-month works contract, which created the excavation and buttressing for the tower’s three-level 400-vehicle basement car park.
RPA general manager Hylton Slater said that RPA recognized Glenzeil’s first class reputation for the construction of high-quality buildings in southeast Queensland and are delighted to have been able to appoint a leading Gold Coast company to construct The Rocket, and regard Glenzeil as having a long and excellent track record,” he said.
Glenzeil director Ken Skrinis said that the appointment to construct an office tower as significant for the future of Robina and the Gold Coast as The Rocket was a major achievement for Glenzeil.
“Construction of the structure itself, from basement to rooftop, will take 12 months and we will need a further six months to finish the building’s internals and exterior,” he said.
“Thus, we expect to comfortably complete The Rocket in the last quarter of 2009.”
Designed by leading architects Woods Bagot, The Rocket will be smart-wired, and incorporate energy-efficient and environment-sensitive features and fittings, all combining to target a Greenstar design rating of four.
Occupying a waterfront site, The Rocket will comprise approximately 1400 sqm of boutique retail and restaurant-café space at street and waterfront level, with 11,000 sqm of A-grade office space above.
The Rocket offers office spaces from 90 sqm to whole-floor areas of about 790 sqm which can be configured to meet a range of business needs.
RPA have unconditional full deposit sales contracts that cover approximately half of the total development costs, with very strong results on leasing of the street-level boutique retail, café and restaurant spaces.
The Rocket is being financed by ING Bank, which provided the financial backing for several of the company’s earlier projects.
